I recently got an e-mail which contained details about a newly formed party "Lok Paritran" by a group of IITians. They are inviting applications from very educated young perole to contest in the coming elections in Kerala, TN, Pondicherry. I have got mixed feelings about this party. For starters its a good initiative by a bunch of enthusiastic people. I hope they stand by their words.
I had decided that I wont get a voters card because there is no use voting for any party. All they do is spend a hell lot of money, lure the poor with gifts, come to power and by hook or crook fill their coffers with gold. But when I got this news some hope was instilled in me, now I have an urge to go back to TN and get myself registered for voting (But it seems it is too late as the registration is already complete there!).
But on the other hand, having had good education can never mean that the person has got good virtues. For I myself was involved in politics in the institute an year back. I lost but because of my party ticket and because my party held the reins they gave me a slot in the students council. What was unveiled to me is that even amidst a group of educated youth (all of us are ME/PhD guys) politics can be filthy. The sense of power consummates you to such an extent that the feeling to serve (if at all any existed in the first place) dies out as quickly as it came.
As my friend, Phani, put in Virtue in itself is a reward and those who expect to reap rewards by doing good are going to be lost in a world full of unethical things. The party seems promising. But only time will tell whether it is a white sheep in a pack of dogs.
The above are solely my thoughts and this is not for advertising or patronising any party.

just now hearing this news .... hmmmm..
i guess, the common mistake of such educated people like us first lies in executing our voting rites...
yeah.. its true that politicians participating arent worth much, but the attitude of
>>> there is no use voting for any party
should be changing... , especially we can find this much among the educated ppl only. Either its their lazyness or just thier inability to make changes.
Once there was this person M.S.Udhayamoorthy (hope you would have known him), stood in the elections in our place and he lost very badly to opposite politician.. and the guy who won was like, he was elected many times before but hadnt done anything.
now whom to blame ? we cannot blame the common man, cauz he may be uneducated and not be aware of such persons, thier virtues or high morals. At that point of time its the duty of educated ppl like us. So we should always try to executed our rights whatever situation it may be.
Now the current MP of Madurai, Mr. Mohan from Communist, is a good person, simple and doing good, so people have to give chances to persons like them, and it can be done only when everyone votes.. else the other kinda politicians take advantage of our absense...
and as you said.. when it means power.. educated or uneducated doesnt matters... its only the exposure they have and thier characteristics, which might reflect in the activities they had done before...
in many movies, its been a theme where students come into politics and change the way politics is... so letz believe this is such kindof good start..
ps:
sorry if i had lectured too long :-) , cauz i usually get litl angry when ppl start cribbing what is the use in voting and democracy
this post is really thought provoking sugee, in a lot of different ways...
Why that last line disclaimer?
Even if you're not voting, do get your voters I-card. That's a major requirementif you tend to do anything - buying a vehicle, renting a house etc
I dont agree with what யாத்திரீகன் said(sorry, I can't read Tamil), so I copied the name. We have to use our voting rights does not mean that we have to vote to one or the other party. Just remember the fact that the non-cooperation movement which was a powerful defence against the British by our great Mahatma. In the same way, I belive that my voting power can be used three ways, 1. Vote to the best one, 2. Vote to some other party because the best one is not that good. 3. Don't vote because none of the party deserves my vote. In a group of 100, if two has two differnet opinions but if both are wrong, then if the rest 98 doesnt support either two, then it means they both are not going to go forward with the wrong opinon. Non-cooperation has its own strength.
India is not a country..its a amalgamation of n number of countries...the more we discover ..the more amused we are...infact what we think today to be right....is wrong tommorrow...and again will be right the day after.....
good post sugee, keep it up!
I guess there is no harm in casting ur vote to Lok Paritran....unless we give someone a chance and see how they perform we will never know how good or bad they can be...we have already given chances aplenty to the existing parties and all they have done is swindle money in the name of god, religion, nation and whatsoever...
Infact from what i saw here among the IT community of my friends is that they are pretty excited about this party and some of them enrolled in it and also promised to vote for them..
I pray that we may not mouth "U TOO BRUTUS " to these guys :-(
Heard about this?
They have joined up with a stream radio.
